Our Community Cares, Inc. was formed by a local group of concerned citizens who have stepped up to help those in need in the past.

These have ranged from residents losing their homes to fire, illnesses, tragic accidents and financial hardships.

The desire was to create a central organization that responded quickly and effectively to residents in need.

Our community has always come together and collectively responded when the need arose.

Our Community Cares, Inc. wishes to continue this response but in a more structured and organized environment to provide a more measured and appropriate response when the need arises.

Why The Name “Our Community Cares?”

In 2011, Dawn Steward had to share with her children the devastating news that Dawn’s oldest sister had just been diagnosed with stage 2 Breast Cancer. Dawn explained to them that although they were facing the unknown, they would face this together as a family and work to make this time as easy as possible for their aunt.

One day shortly after, Alexandria, the youngest child came home from school and stated she had a way to help. Alexandria designed a t-shirt which  was sold at three fund-raisers in support of local women facing this same horrible disease and raised over $1000.00. During the fundraising and community discussions, it was clear there was a need for a community program which could continually assist those in need.

The idea of Our Community Cares was born from family and support, but mostly from love

How We Work

Our vision for our foundation is that:

We will establish and follow a criteria and review system to determine the appropriate level of support to provide on a case-by-case basis. Emergency situations will be reviewed as the need arises. Other requests for support may be submitted in writing to be reviewed by our Board of Directors.

If you know of someone in need of assistance, or if you need assistance yourself, please contact us.  We’ll provide you an application form and have our directors meet with you.  We respect the personal privacy of each and every person that makes contact with us.

If you are interested in volunteering, please Email Us with your contact information and a brief description of what your interests and talents are.
